Homeschool of the Redwoods: Orientation
Part 1: Complete Your Registration
1. HOORAY! YOU'RE IN!
We are going to have SO much fun talking about homeschooling. I can’t wait to learn more about you, your children, and your family’s homeschooling needs. This Welcome Page was created to help you get oriented to the course format. Take a few minutes now to learn how to join the Facebook group, and don’t forget to mark your calendars to remind yourself to attend the Live videos, participate in discussions, and complete assignments!
2. JOINING THE GROUP
The course discussion forum will be hosted inside a Facebook group. You will be responsible for checking in on your own time to view new posts with articles, quotes, tips, inspiration, and suggested assignments. You must first be a member of the group.
Make sure you answer the questions, letting me know if your Paypal email/name is the SAME as your Facebook username. If I don’t know who you are, I can’t add you to the course!
When I verify your payment, I will admit you to the group. Sometimes this takes several days, since I manually add everyone to the current roster in large batches. If there is a slight delay, please be patient. There will be no actual course material in the group until the first day of class, so I promise you aren’t missing anything until Day 1.
Your enrollment guarantees one Facebook account in the discussion forum. To add a spouse, partner, or other family member who lives with you, you will need to pay for another enrollment. If you wish to do this, let me know and I will accomodate.
3. ABOUT THE Course Content
The pre-recorded videos and all printable handouts will be hosted on a private website. I will email you your password before the course begins so that you can access these materials anytime.
Your password is subject to change at any time. I will notify you if I do so both in the group and via the email you registered with. Do not share your password. It is for your personal use. Failure to follow this rule will result in your immediate removal from the course.
You are, however, welcome to share, watch, collaborate, and do these assignments together with your spouse, partner, or immediate family member that lives with you. I want this course to be family-friendly so that I can help you with your homeschooling, but if a friend or online acquaintance is asking to join the class, please make sure you clearly understand our privacy rule.
Your access to the password-protected website will end on July 31, 2019.
4. ABOUT THE LIVE VIDEOS
All of the group coaching sessions will be streamed Live using a separate webinar service (not on Facebook) on the scheduled days. The days and times are subject to change. I will do my best to give 24 hours advance notice if I need to reschedule. You will be able to ask me questions ahead of time, and you will be emailed a direct link to the Live room on the day of the session.
Your access to the group coaching recordings will end on July 31, 2019.
5. ABOUT THE GROUP DISCUSSIONS
The Facebook group will be a vibrant, active community filled with inspiring quotes, discussion topics, motivational challenges, and more.
Your participation and attendance in the group is optional, but I humbly request that you make a habit of “liking” the posts as you read them, commenting with an opinion yourself on at least 5 posts per week, and replying to someone else’s comments 5 times per week. The more you participate, the more fun and dynamic the group will be!
In my experience, a whole lot of learning occurs in the group discussions!
My tip: do not try to read ALL of the comments if a thread is very popular. Do try to respond to or “like” a few of the comments that really resonate with you.
When you take the time to comment yourself, you are solidifying the ideas in your own head, and this is an important part of the learning process. The previous members of this class who feel that the discussions aid their learning are heavy commenters!
Finally, please realize that Facebook is available 24/7. This is fantastic because it allows us to respond asynchronously - in our own time zones. However, just because discussion is always happening, this does not mean that you need to be online all of the time!
I am counting on you to manage your screen time during this course. Decide how much time you are willing and able to spend reading and commenting. I will not be online the whole time either. I will be popping in and out as it fits my life homeschooling my own children.
Enter and exit the group space with mindful intention. There is no rush to get through the discussions.
The group will remain available indefinitely, so you can always come back and participate later.
Part 2: The Course Syllabus
Here is the general schedule for our course content. Every week on Monday, new content will be released on the website and new discussions posted in the group. The official dates for all of the Group coaching sessions will be posted on the Main Menu page.

It is your responsibility to make note of the information here and to remember to keep up with the course content. Please do not use the group space to complain or vent about being busy or missing discussions and/or group coaching sessions if life circumstances prevent you from attending. We are all very busy with our families, and we all are responsible for our own work and our own plans.
After the course ends, you will be left with a beautiful online community to continue to inspire and support your journey.
