“I thought I loved Montessori education before, after having taken the Primary course. But I fell in love with the Lower Elementary curriculum even more! This course helped me to see how it’s all connected and how fun it can be to get into the more abstract concepts like grammar and word study. It was so packed full of information and support.”

A World of Learning

In the Homeschool of the Redwoods Lower Elementary program, you’ll get lifetime access to the eight core subject areas you’ll need to teach your child.

This includes the “three R’s” - Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic - as well as Life Science, Physical Science, Grammar, Geometry, Humankind, and the Arts.

It's a comprehensive 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade curriculum.

But our method is not like other homeschool curricula. Yes, you will learn how to teach each of the eight core subjects.

But what makes it special is the incredible Montessori elementary focus on interdisciplinary learning.

Interdisciplinary learning means no lesson is solely focused on one subject. Lessons link together, building one on another in limitless ways.

It’s a child-centered and highly engaging method that works for children with a range of personalities and ability levels.

While children’s interests and motivation can be highly unpredictable, good pedagogy (the science of teaching) is not.

There is a method to effective teaching during these elementary years.

You can learn it!

Here’s How the Program Works
As soon as you enroll, you get immediate - and LIFETIME - access to the core course material, including demonstration and lecture videos, learning journals, Pacing and Documentation guides, and Lessons and Activities guides. This part is self-paced, and you can start now. Go as slowly or quickly as you like!
You’ll be invited to join the Homeschool of the Redwoods Community right away, where you’ll get support from other course members and alumni. Your access begins as soon as you enroll and runs for an entire year!
In addition, you’ll also have the opportunity to attend a 9-months of intensive group coaching experience to help you pace through the material, which includes live group coaching sessions with Aubrey, plus access to a private classroom for group discussions. The intensive runs September through May.

“I loved getting the list of lessons and trying to wrap my head around it all. The live and recorded discussions were excellent, and always seemed to clarify the printed materials. I enjoyed chatting with other participants when I could attend live, it seemed sometimes there was a second lesson going on in the chat that I always found beneficial.”

Nine Amazing Areas

We spent years designing the Lower Elementary program to ensure it presents the needed depth and scope of material in easy to understand and implement format.

Each unit contains hours of instructional and demo videos, a Learning Journal, a Lessons & Activities Guide, and a set of Work Plans to help you pace through the material. In addition, you’ll take a deep dive into how to plan your own homeschool rhythm and routine. You have LIFETIME access to all of this content!

Physical Science

Get ready to teach the formation of the universe, solar system, and earth! The way in which we teach these concepts in Montessori is unique. We’ll be creating timelines, telling the first Great Lesson story, using special Montessori impressionistic charts, and doing lab experiments about the formation of the universe

Life Science

You’ll understand the ways we organize and classify living things, and you’ll get familiar with the study of the origin of life on earth to encourage your child to research topics of their interest. You’ll come away with an understanding of the inquiry-based learning and why it’s the foundation of teaching botany and zoology. We’ll go out in our own backyards and identify the flora and fauna around us.

Humankind

We are human beings. What does that mean, exactly? You’ll discover how to answer the question “who are we as human beings?” as found in biology, social organization, and spirituality. You’ll explore human anatomy and the elements of political geography within this unit.

The Arts

Creativity is a fundamental human need. You’ll learn how and why to teach the three core concepts in music - enjoyment, understanding, and analysis. You’ll also understand the progression of art education - from practical skill to application to appreciation.

Reading & Writing

If your child is not yet reading and writing fluently, you’ll learn how to help your child on the path to literacy using the Montessori method. If your child is already advanced, you’ll launch right into literature and creative writing.

Grammar

Becoming an effective reader and writer requires a vast amount of knowledge about the systems of language. You will learn how to teach your child word study, grammar, sentence analysis, and punctuation skills.

Mathematics

The Montessori approach to math takes the child from concrete experiences to abstract calculations. You’ll learn how to teach math using specific materials like the golden beads, colored beads, stamps, checkerboard, test tubes, and decimal board!

Geometry

The entire visible world around us can be explored in terms of geometrical forms. You’ll learn how to teach your child the characteristics and relationships between plane figures like triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, and circles.

Your Elementary Child

In addition to these eight subject area specific units, the course includes a ninth unit, Your Elementary Child, focused entirely on helping you design the right rhythm and routine for your child.

You’ll learn the characteristics of the 6 to 9 year old child and the reason for teaching cosmic education. You’ll also get familiar with creating work plans and agendas, the value of portfolios, and how to have a morning meeting that will make your days run more smoothly. Plus, you'll get immediate access to a detailed, leveled Scope and Sequence to help you plan out your entire year (or three)!

Take a Peek!

In addition to the lessons, Homeschool of the Redwoods includes easy to use Planning and Documentation guides for each of the eight subject area. These guides make it easier for you to keep track of your child's progress and plan out a rich and exciting learning experience.

“I loved the WHOLE THING! It gave me the direction I so badly needed! It’s more than just Montessori, the course really helps the adult to understand WHY the second plane child does what they do. Seriously, it was the best course I’ve done, and it’s made such a difference to our home education.”

Welcome! I’m Aubrey! I have a Master's in Curriculum & Instruction and 20 years teaching experience. I've taught adults and kids, taught in public schools, private schools, and in the home. I’m Montessori certified through the American Montessori Society for ages 6-9, Lower Elementary.

I loved teaching in the classroom, but when it came time to make this educational choice for my own children, something in my heart said, “keep them at home!” And when I combined the Montessori curriculum I knew and loved with a relaxed, spontaneous approach to homeschooling, I knew I had hit on something special.

From cooking in the kitchen to spending time in nature, these Montessori lessons could be taught anywhere!

For decades, the Montessori elementary method has been behind a wall of exclusivity. Essentially, the only way to gain access to the method was to become a Montessori certified teacher yourself through a quality teacher education program, then gain experience in a classroom under the mentorship of an experienced teacher.

Well, this experienced teacher-turned-homeschooler says: NO MORE. Never before has there been such a need for parents to have access to the incredible method of teaching that Maria Montessori designed. No longer will it be “Montessori private school or no Montessori at all”.

Know what else makes me annoyed online? When classroom-trained teachers try to tell homeschoolers what to do.

If you haven't homeschooled, you just don't know what's like! The learning partnership we share with our children is unique and beautiful and could not be less like teaching in the classroom.

Homeschoolers all over the world deserve to have an affordable, accessible Montessori education to give to their children, taught BY homeschoolers, and it brings me such joy to share my knowledge and expertise with anyone who wants to learn.

I hope you will consider joining this special program. I can’t wait to meet you and learn about your family’s needs.

This IS for you if you want…

A comprehensive plan for core subjects

The flexibility to follow your child's interests

A true homeschooler's "teacher education program”

This is NOT for you if you want…

A set of workbooks for your child

    A teacher-directed approach

    A 'plug and play' program

“It's a beautiful education ethos with nature and the earth, and a strong sense of self at its core, which is important to our family. I loved learning from Aubrey's enthusiasm and growing my understanding of the Montessori method.”

School Should Not Be Boring

Did you know that by 3rd grade, most children in traditional schools have learned that school is not about joyful learning, it’s about getting good grades, raising your hand to speak, and turning in your homework? Schools gain academic compliance by using external motivators and strict behavioral rules.

That’s one path to an education, but those things have nothing to do with actual learning. As a homeschooler, you have the opportunity to make a different choice. You can teach your own child to value their intellectual interests!

Here’s What School Looks Like for Many Children:

  • Sitting at a desk for long hours
  • Completing assignments regardless of interest
  • Limited social interaction with peers
  • Lessons confined to a classroom

Here’s What School Could Look Like for Your Child:

  • Learning everywhere and all the time
  • Lots of downtime to play, dream, and get creative
  • Self-initiated research
  • Collaborative lessons between you and your child
Learning should be a way of life - and so should teaching!

“I came away with a stronger sense of Montessori, of my own rhythm and needs as they combine with my children's, and a ton of resources to support our homeschool journey. I would highly recommend it! It was a key resource for empowering me as I leapt into this special and sacred time with our children.”

Everything Else You Wanted to Know

➕ What age should my child be?

You can join this program whenever you like, but the curriculum content will apply to 6-9 year olds (1st-3rd grades). Many like to take it a bit early so they can prepare for the elementary years.

➕ Do I get lifetime access?

Yes! You get lifetime access to the pre-recorded content and materials for all 9 units, which includes any future updates/revisions. You also get 1 full year of access to the live coaching and community. To continue to receive coaching + community after that point, consider joining Constellation or re-enrolling in the course.

➕ How much time is involved?

Honestly? The work you do for this course should be purposeful and joyful. You are engaging in lifelong learning, which is exactly what we want our children to be doing! There is roughly 2-3 hours of video content per unit, and you will be recording your insights in a workbook-style journal.

You have the entire month to work on this content, and then you’ll have the option to attend the Live sessions and group discussions. It should feel fun and supportive. You can do as much as you want or as little as you want. Life events will come up. You can always go back to the content later because you will have lifetime access.

➕ When are the Live Sessions scheduled?

Right now they are scheduled at either 8:00am or 5:00pm Pacific Standard Time on Wednesdays. If you can attend Live, that’s great! If not, we will provide recordings within 48 hours.

➕ Are there recordings of the Lives?

Yes! We will archive the Lives so that you can access them on your own schedule. You will have access to the coaching + community, including this archive, for 1 year after purchase.

➕ Is the community on Facebook?

No. We strongly believe that course participants deserve a private, safe space to discuss that does not lend itself to drama, political debates, distracting viral memes, or privacy concerns. We host our community discussions on Mighty Networks, which we pay monthly for and manage closely. It’s a fabulous place to ask your questions, and even has an app! Our Child of the Redwoods community is emphatically inclusive and supportive.

“I really enjoyed the recorded videos! I could go back and rewatch parts that I wanted to really learn - specifically did this with the great lessons and math concepts like the pizza story. Overall, it's given me the tools and confidence to play a role in my children's learning. It was such a gift of support in a time when I felt very alone.“

➕ Do you offer discounts?

We prefer financial assistance / scholarship programs so we can directly serve families in need. Reach out if you'd like more information about it. We also offer a 4-month payment plan option.

➕ Do I need to take the Primary course first?

There is no prerequisite. If you have a child who is age 4 or just turning 5, the Primary program is still the correct developmental fit. However, if you are on the cusp with say, a 5.5yo, the Lower Elementary program does have some crossover content from Primary to help you make the transition.

➕ Is this a religious program or secular?

We are inclusive. Like Maria Montessori, we believe that all children deserve a high quality education, and we respect and celebrate different religious beliefs. We have families in this program who are Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, Nonreligious, etc. Please note that our lessons are as scientifically accurate as possible - especially regarding the origin of the universe and life on Earth.

➕ Will this program meet my country/state’s requirements?

Every local area has different requirements for homeschoolers. We are not experts on every situation, but we will say that this program is flexible and adaptable. Many homeschoolers are asked to submit a schedule for the year, and our leveled scope and sequence should provide more than enough information for you to feel confident that you are providing a high quality, well-rounded educational plan.

➕ Is this all I need in order to homeschool my child?

It might be! Homeschooling is also a very unique experience for every family. You will likely want to buy or DIY specific materials to go along with this course, as Montessori is a hands-on approach to learning. Most homeschoolers also use a variety of resources, most of which can be found online or at your local library. If you prefer a little more explicit direction, consider joining us in Constellation for monthly themes, where we provide full lesson plans and printable materials.

➕ Does this include all of the Great Lessons?

You bet it does! Storytelling is one of the major ways that we give lessons to elementary students. There are 6 original, scripted Great Lessons included in this program, all variations on Maria Montessori's own Great Lessons. You'll get demos of all of them, plus several extra, also great lessons.

➕ Which is right for me - this program or Constellation?

There is no repeat content between these two programs! Homeschool of the Redwoods will give you the foundational knowledge and entire scope and sequence for 3 years. Constellation is designed to provide continued support and to help you put this knowledge into practice. Many members report that joining both is beneficial.

➕ Will this tell me exactly what to teach and how?

Yes. Montessori education is a METHOD. Once you know the method, the lessons are the easy part! If you join this program, it is because you want to be an active participant in your child's learning journey. I'm going to help you gain the skills and knowledge to teach all 8 core subjects. It's a lot like a cooking class. You're not going to make a perfect soufflé on the first day. You've got to learn some technique first. You're learning to be a chef, not absentmindedly microwaving a frozen dinner. 😉

But I can tell you this: it is doable, you're going to have a solid plan, you're going to have lots of fun, you're going to follow your child's interests, and you'll have support every step of the way.

“If you are transitioning into early elementary learning with your child, this course is everything! Besides organizing the academic material for Lower Elementary and going through it thoroughly, Aubrey helps you, as a parent and your child's guide, prepare and center yourself for the learning journey.

I learned so much about the materials and methods for this stage of learning, but the priceless part was the community of kind, encouraging parents also on this Montessori journey. I absolutely recommend it!”
