Our Montessori Scope and Sequence—and the Simple Tool That Helps You Use It

A complete scope and sequence sounds great until you're staring at hundreds of Montessori lessons and wondering where to start.

That’s where our Montessori Planning Card™ system comes in. It helps you teach the right lessons at the right time, while still following your child’s unique path.

What’s in Our Scope and Sequence?

The Child of the Redwoods curriculum covers everything your child needs from age 2 through 9:

  • Primary and Lower Elementary developmental stages

  • 10 subject areas, including Reading, Math, Practical Life, Sensorial, and more

  • Over 2,000 lessons, sequenced across 6 skill-based levels

  • A clear progression of skills and concepts, so you always know what comes next

Everything is organized into an easy-to-follow structure, but we know it can still feel like a lot.

Clear Directions Without Rigidity

A good scope and sequence does one thing very, very well - it tells you exactly what’s in a curriculum. What doesn’t it do is understand your child’s actual readiness or interests. Or help you know what lesson to give. (sigh) It also fails to highlight the interdisciplinary nature of true learning!

That’s not the scope and sequence’s fault. The truth is…

You shouldn’t have to figure out what to teach by yourself,

BUT

you also shouldn’t be locked into a one-size-fits-all plan.

After years of work, we developed the perfect solution: our Montessori Planning Card™ system. It strikes the perfect balance between the clarity of a scope and sequence and the child-centric nature of Montessori.

You’ll always have a sense of what comes next while still honoring your child’s needs, interests, and pace. WIN! 🎉

How the Planning Card System Works

Montessori Planning Cards™ take the entire scope and sequence and break it into bite-sized, parent-friendly planning tools.

Choose.

Start with the latest Constellation card then add up to four Foundation cards. Not sure what to choose? We give you age-based guidance.

Teach.

Give a lesson from each card. Use the printable lesson guides or online Lesson Explorer for step-by-step guidance.

Track.

At the end of the week, check off completed lessons. Reuse, rotate, or retire the cards based on your child’s needs and growth.

Say Goodbye to the Overwhelm

The Montessori Planning Card™ system is exclusive to Child of the Redwoods and included with both our Complete Curriculum and Unlimited plans.

It’s how we help you move through a complete Montessori education, without our brains on overload or getting off track.

Planning should feel purposeful and even fun! It should be your favorite part of the day, and with some extra tools and support, it can.
