The Theme Library

Make learning magical and connected.

Some of the sweetest homeschool memories begin with a question or observation.

"What do bees do?" "I see the moon!" "Why do leaves change color?"

The Theme Library helps you turn those ordinary moments into rich, interdisciplinary Montessori studies.

Explore a whole digital library full of beautifully designed Theme Packs filled with hands on lessons, printables, books, songs, art, and activities that bring Montessori to life in your home.

The Best Learning Doesn't Happen One Subject at a Time

You may remember a school day of your own that began with reading, then a math lesson, followed by science or perhaps social studies in the afternoon. Children don't experience the world in separate school subjects.

They don't wake up wondering if today is a science day or a geography day.

They simply become fascinated.

A butterfly lands nearby.

A rainbow appears after the rain.

A question about the moon turns into an afternoon spent reading, painting, singing, observing, and wondering together.

The Theme Library was created to help you embrace those moments.

Instead of piecing together your own unit studies, you'll have beautiful Montessori Theme Packs ready whenever curiosity strikes.

Thoughtfully Designed From Start to Finish

Each Theme Pack is a complete interdisciplinary experience built around one captivating topic.

  • Weekly Planning Cards

  • Carefully chosen books

  • Songs and poems

How Families Use The Theme Library

When you're following your child's curiosity

One day it's frogs.

The next it's weather.

Then suddenly your child wants to know everything about planets.

You don't have to stop everything and create a unit study from scratch. Simply choose a Theme Pack and begin exploring together.

When you're looking for learning that feels connected

Children don't naturally separate science, geography, language, and art into different subjects.

Theme Packs weave them together around one meaningful topic, helping your child make natural connections that deepen understanding.

When you're creating homeschool memories

Some homeschool moments stay with your family forever.

Watching caterpillars transform into butterflies.

Making fresh apple cider together.

Searching for animal tracks after a rainstorm.

Growing seeds on the windowsill.

The Theme Library helps turn everyday learning into experiences your family will remember for years.

When you're homeschooling more than one child

Every child brings something different to a theme.

Younger children delight in the hands on activities.

Older children ask deeper questions, complete more advanced work, and extend their investigations.

Everyone learns together while working at their own developmental level.

When you're looking for beautiful printables

While not every Montessori lesson needs a printable, every material included inside a Theme Pack has a purpose.

You'll find thoughtfully designed four part cards, classified cards, booklets, labels, and other printable resources that support meaningful, hands on Montessori learning.

There are no worksheets, cartoony characters, or “fluff” materials in our themes. Our standards are high. They're designed to enrich your experience and help you introduce high-level vocabulary and offer factual information to your child.

When you're celebrating the seasons

Welcome spring with the pollinating bees, go camping (indoors or out!) in summer, collect acorns with the squirrels in fall, and discover the Northern Lights and polar ice caps in winter. These are all real activities within our themes. Theme Packs help your homeschool feel connected to the world around you.

Built on Your Montessori Foundation

It could, in fact, stand well on its own, but the Theme Library isn't a separate curriculum.

It's built on the same carefully sequenced Montessori foundation found throughout Child of the Redwoods.

Reading, mathematics, language, and the other core subjects continue through your Montessori Teaching Guides.

Theme Packs simply help your child revisit and explore those ideas in richer, more connected ways.

For example, your child might first freely explore color mixing during a foundational physical science lesson in Level 2. They'll experiment with red, yellow, and blue water, discover how primary colors combine to make secondary colors, and learn new vocabulary like primary colors, secondary colors, mix, and hue.

Then, as your family explores the Pigment Theme Pack, that learning expands.

Your child refines their eyedropper skills, experiments with creating new shades, connects science with art, and continues exploring color through songs, extensions, and activities designed for all ages.

The foundational lesson introduces the concept.

The Theme Pack gives your child more opportunities to explore it, practice it, and delight in it!

Carefully Considered Printable Materials

One question we hear often is why printable materials aren't included with every foundational lesson in our curriculum.

It's because an authentic Montessori education doesn't begin with materials.

Montessori works so well because we have a method that has a specific sequence of lessons based on your real-time observations of your child, and those lessons come first.

The Child of the Redwoods foundational curriculum helps you focus on those core lessons first, and you have a choice of how to teach your child the skill or concept. You could use a real object you already have in your own home, explore with art materials, visit a local children’s museum, read a book about the topic, have a conversation with your child while out and about in nature, or other myriad ways.

It’s only after you understand the purpose of the lesson that you decide whether a material at all is even necessary, and you, as your child’s forever-best teacher, get to make that call.

So…we begin with the foundational lessons themselves.

Then, when a topic becomes the focus of a Theme Pack, if it lends itself to a printable resource, we create beautifully designed printable materials that you can use to teach or extend your foundational lessons.

This is a very different teaching model from many of the Montessori offerings you may have seen online for sale individually or in bulk downloads, where printable resources are the sole focus.

Instead of printing thousands of random pages of parts cards you'll never use, you'll discover carefully curated, thoughtfully designed printables included in our Theme Library exactly where they make the most sense: in context.

Parents often tell us the Theme Library transforms ordinary homeschool days into unforgettable ones.

We asked our members for recommendations from our Theme Library. Here’s what a few of our real families homeschooling with Child of the Redwoods tell us about their favorite themes.

Which Theme Will Your Child Fall in Love With?

We reprise Dinosaur and Magnetic a lot in this house!
— Sarah
Cave was one that surprised both of us with how much we learned and how fun it was! I think that has been the most memorable for my son. We are loving Symphony right now!
— Katie
Making our apple tree was so much fun! I also have fond memories of doing an apple theme with a paper tree as a child in my own homeschool! Like dejavú!
— Jolene
My children still point out the art piece in Stellar every time they see it anywhere. “Look, Starry Night!”
— Daniela
Pigment and Peaceful were our first two themes after joining Child of the Redwoods and they made me fall in love with Montessori! They were also perfectly timed for my kiddo’s interests and our needs as a family.
— Sara

Instead of wondering how to keep learning fresh, they have beautiful themes always at the ready.

Instead of planning activities from scratch, they spend more time exploring with and enjoying their children.

And instead of feeling like they're teaching separate subjects, they watch everything come together in ways that make learning feel joyful, connected, and deeply meaningful.
